Hi Chris,

This is where you can sometimes find that the trail goes a little cold and we have to be careful not to make any assumptions that could be incorrect, but I will certainly have a look for you, but first some questions of my own.

For a start, with a quick look at FreeBMD I can only see the Wollaston Harriet not the Shale Harriet, I can find a Harriet Shale but not with a
marriage to Francis Head, is there definately a Francis Head marriage to a Harriet on there?

I also see that you are looking for a marriage in or around 1850, is that because of their daughter Charlottes age or is there some other information that leads you to believe that they were married then, because they might of course have been married for some years before Charlottes birth.

Even if we say that the only marriage of a Francis Head to a Harriet is the Wollaston one then we have to be certain that this is not just some other Francis Head who coincidentally married a Harriet. Maybe we have just not yet found the right Francis Head marriage yet.

On a more positive note my feeling at the moment is that Harriet Wollaston is the right person, they are the right age at the time of marriage 27 and 26. According to what I can see this Francis is described as an agricultural labourer on the marriage certificate and in 1851 your Francis is also described as an agricultural labourer. Also, Francis was born in Rudge which is less than 8 miles from where this marriage took place. Nothing is proven here we just have a good probability which needs to be proved by some positive link between this couple who married on 14th October 1850 and your Francis Head who we can see in 1851.

I will see if I can find out any more but in the meantime can you check the info about Harriet Shale marriage to a Francis Head.

Regards

Nick

Hi Chris,

No problem at all.

However I would just double check with Pat regarding the marriage place and date as I am pretty sure that the marriage did not take place in Brewood, I am fairly sure that it was at St Peters in Wolverhampton on 14 October 1850, I could be wrong but cannot find any record of the marriage taking place in Brewood, even though this is where they were living later on. If it was in Wolverhampton then Harriet's father is a Thomas Wollaston. Anyway, happy hunting!

Nick

hi nick

sorry to be a pain, but somethings been bothering me, about the family you have helped me with, it was only when i went through the dates and names, i realised that there is no mention of my grandmother gladys m head born 1912, there are a lot of coincidences like rachel head dying around 1914, francis remarrying about 12 months later, and them moving from northwich to glover st in st helens,

Hi Chris,

It is always much more difficult to find out anything about people born within the last 100 years because of the UK privacy laws don't allow general access to this information, so until you get past the 100 year point info is always quite scarce, particularly on the internet unless you are prepared to buy copies of birth/marriage/death certificates which you can do of course.

Having had another dig around I can see I can see that Gladys M Head was born in Northwich in June 1912 and it is the 'correct' Gladys because her mothers maiden name is recorded as KETTLE. I am confident that all of those mentioned are the correct family, to come forward from this point you either need to wait to see if more info is found as time goes by or look at buying some certificates. For example if you ordered this Gladys' birth certificate this would confirm her parents names for you and put your mind at rest over it being the right Gladys and right family line.
